ATAHAN STUDENT DORMITORY
Located in Bornova, Izmir, Atahan Student Residence was designed as a mixed-use building combining commercial units at ground level with student accommodation on the upper floors. The architectural design was developed by MG Architecture & Interiors, with a focus on the building’s relationship with the street and the shared spaces that support everyday student life. Above the commercial level, the building steps back to create generous terraces at different levels. This staggered massing defines the character of the façade while providing outdoor social spaces for students. Daylight, natural ventilation and access to open areas were key considerations in the overall building layout. Horizontal façade lines, large glazed surfaces and recessed volumes help reduce the visual scale of the building. The more public commercial frontage at street level and the more private accommodation areas above are brought together within a consistent architectural language. A shared social area and landscaped terrace at roof level provide students with spaces to meet, relax and spend time outside their rooms. Throughout the project, terraces and open spaces were treated as an active part of student life rather than simply as residual areas around the building.
